Acupuncture is the eastern medicine technique of inserting small needles into the skin in order to control the flow of qi (pronounced "chee") and restore the energy balance of the body. In western medicine there is a theory that acupuncture releases endorphins which make a person who is quitting smoking feel better. The evidence as to whether acupuncture is effective in helping smokers quit is unclear.
