A good general guide is to base as much of your diet as possible on fresh, natural foods and, wherever possible, avoid processed, packaged and takeaway foods. Processing and packaging adds an awful lot of undesirable things to food – extra sugar, salt, fat, preservatives and colours. These additives might prolong the shelf life of a food, but it reduces their nutritional value.
