Several factors can combine to increase the risk of heart disease. While you can’t change all of them, the great news is there is a lot you can do to reduce their impact.

The things you can’t change

Unfortunately, there are some risk factors for CAD that you can't change or control. These are known as non-modifiable risk factors, and include getting older, being male and having a family history of heart disease. These risk factors alone are not responsible by themselves for causing CAD, but they do increase your risk.
