Pill May Protect Against Cancer

Written by Tim Pegler

In addition to largely protecting against unplanned pregnancies, the contraceptive pill also has a prophylactic effect against ovarian cancer, Italian researchers have confirmed.

A study published in the International Journal of Cancer has built upon earlier work indicating that the pill played a role in preventing ovarian cancer. The research, by Italy's Istituto di Ricerche Farmacologiche, has not only revealed that this is true but shown the protective effect may endure for 20 years or more.
