A form of meditation known as 'mindfulness' is steadily gaining popularity for treating mental health conditions such as depression and anxiety - and preventing relapses of these illnesses.

Mindfulness meditation is a technique adapted from Buddhism. According to Jon Kabat-Zinn, one of its key proponents, “Mindfulness means paying attention in a particular way: on purpose, in the present moment and non-judgmentally”. Individuals learn to become more aware of changing bodily sensations, feelings and thoughts, to observe them and accept them rather than automatically react.
